Maroon and White is seeking self-nominations for its Board. Like many charitable organizations, Maroon and White has board members join as couples, but we welcome single parents as well
To be considered, you must have a child who will be in Scarsdale High School in 2022-2023 (rising 9th – rising 12th grader) who is involved with athletics and intends to participate in athletics throughout high school. Ideal candidates have a strong interest in volunteerism. We will also consider which sports your child(ren) participate(s) in, as we strive to have board members whose children collectively participate in all Scarsdale athletics
Maroon and White is the parent booster association that supports athletics, physical education and student health at SHS and SMS. Additionally, we promote school spirit through sports tournaments, awards dinners, and Raider Pride weeks during the athletic seasons. Our fundraising helps purchase necessary equipment for the high school and middle school athletic teams and for physical education programs not covered by the current year school budget. We have recently pledged approximately $200,000 for the permanent lights at Butler Track and Field and $100,000 for the construction of the new SHS fitness center. In addition, we have supported our athletes through the recent purchases of a basketball shooting machine, lacrosse helmets, wrestling mats, new gymnastics equipment and hurdles for track and field, as well as bleachers for Scarsdale Middle School and Supply Fields.
Maroon and White board members have several responsibilities. These include becoming a member of Maroon and White; placing a family ad annually in the Sports Journal; soliciting ads for the Sports Journal; attending board meetings, which are approximately 8 times throughout the school year; serving on at least one committee; and volunteering at merchandise sales and special events.
